The Wawanesa Life Insurance Company (Life Company) was established by the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company (Mutual Company) in 1960 to expand products being made available by Mutual Company. Mutual Company has provided significant operating and financial support to Life Company. Life Company became a wholly - owned subsidiary of Mutual Company being converted from a mutual to a stock form in 1993.

The Wawanesa Life Insurance Company is a subsidiary of the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company Wholly-owned by it.

The larges of property & casualty insurers in Canada Wawanesa Mutual is doing very well. Being established in 1896 in the village of Wawanesa, Manitoba and incorporated in 1929 its Executive Offices are located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Wawanesa Mutual operates in Canada and states of California and Oregon.

Wawanesa made outstanding growth after its 100th birthday in 1996 giving stability and dedicated service to policy-holders. The Company slogan concerted with its centennial year is "Earning Your Trust Since 1896. The Wawanesa Organization is proud of its history.

Individual Operations

Wawanesa Life offers a complete set of individual life and annuity products. Life insurance products include permanent and renewable term products. Annuities include RRSP, RRIF and non-registered savings products with the investment options including equity participation through Segregated Funds. The primary method of distribution focuses on marketing these products to client of casualty and property brokers contracted with the parent Company.

These brokers work in partnership with Company's Insurance Advisors providing a life insurance service to their clients. This service is available at the support office and MGA locations.

Group Operations

The group Division started operations in 1979 initially being concentrated steadily since then and currently has Group Regional Offices in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver, each Office being under the direction 2 Regional Group Managers in Vancouver).

The Company makes available a complete set of Group Life, Short and Long Term Disability Health and Dental products. Health Spending Accounts and Administrative Services only (ASO) can be arranged for the Health and Dental benefits. Group life and health insurance is marketed by the Group Division of Wawanesa Life primary to employer - employee groups. The market focuses on businesses ranging from 10 to 250 employees. Distribution is mainly through benefit consulting firms and group insurance brokers.

For meeting the needs of employers we unbundled the group benefits to tailor a group insurance program. Basing on claim experience. Short Term Disability, Extended Health and Dental Benefits are rated while the Life and Long Term Disability overages are pooled. We attempt to stabilize the rate level by smoothing fluctuations in both pooled and experience rates providing the employer with manageable costs.
